Coffee and chocolates with Tutu.

Wednesday, 6 August 2008, at 08:26

A few weeks ago, I received an email from a French filmmaker, Emmanuel Itier, who explained that he will be in South Africa in August to interview Archbishop Desmond Tutu for the penultimate leg of his documentary surrounding “world peace and finding God”, featuring interviews with Annie Lennox, Depeche Mode, Jim Carrey, Deepak Chopra, the Dalai Lama, rabbis, imams, Vatican priests, atheists, authors, scientists, and even the High Priest of the Church of Satan, and wanted to know whether or not he may interview me (along with one or two related cartoons).

After being convinced that Emmanuel was not, in fact, Whackhead Simpson, I agreed, and we ended up having coffee and chocolates with (the very funny) Archbishop Desmond Tutu yesterday morning.

The last photo is of - from left to right - Claude (the cameraman), Emmanuel, and myself.

The documentary is called The Invocation, and the website is www.theinvocation.com.

I wondered why you’ve been so quiet lately. You are so fortunate to have met Tutu - I would love to have met him. I think he’s a man of so much integrity and I have enormous respect for him.

 Yo Everyone! This is I, the weird French dude who came to Cape Town and met with our now great friend Desmond Tutu…..Sure this man was impressive but what was even more impressive was the overall warm welcome we got from all of you in Cape Town. Especially from Jeremy and his girlfriend! It’s been almost 2 weeks and we’re longing to come back to South Africa…
The movie http://www.TheInvocation.com will be totally done in 2 months so watch out for our ’second coming’ in the Spring of 2009….and this time we will all have a grand party with grand South African wines and food!
    Till then, Cheers and Peace!
    Love,

    Emmanuel
