Now that you’ve heard and listened to Zuma’s album, here’s something to read if you’ve got time and offcourse it can only be about Zuma the racist.

    JOHANNESBURG
JZ chat: Only black journos allowed
    Fri, 22 Feb 2008
ANC president Jacob Zuma is to deliver an off-the-record address at the inaugural imbizo of a forum exclusively for black journalists in Sandton on Friday.

Chairperson of the newly formed forum’s steering committee, Abbey Makoe, said the Forum of Black Journalists (FBJ) was an association of journalists “who would politically in the South African context be defined as of African descent, coloureds and Indians”.

Makoe said the body’s “modus operandi” was to “redress inherent past imbalances which affect journalists as they attempt to work in the public domain”.

The forum allowed anyone membership who wanted to join it, if they matched the criteria — which is if they were of African descent, coloured or Indian.

When asked about whether he thought it was discriminatory to exclude white journalists, Makoe said: “To be quite frank that is just when people want to take attention away from why black journalists feel the need to get together from time to time to discuss matters they feel need addressing.”

He said it was no different from the Jewish Board of Deputies or the Black Lawyers Association.

“All like minded people get together under one roof and chew together on things of common interest,” he said.

Zuma’s address on Friday was “off the record” meaning it was not to be broadcast or reported on in newspapers.

ANC spokesperson Tiyani Rikhotso said the party accepted the invitation but could not comment on the composition of the organisation or the exclusivity of its membership.

President Thabo Mbeki was an honorary member of the first FBJ which disbanded in the late 1990s.

The inaugural imbizo will usher in the new FBJ.

“All like minded people get together under one roof and chew together on things of common interest,” he said.

What a joke. Shouldn’t it read; “All like minded black people get together…” ????? How are Indians of african descent. I’m white, I was born in SA. Doesn’t that make me come from african descent?? :???:

  10. 10 Michael

Indians come from India don’t they??? If your born in SA then you are African, right??

  11. 11 Michael

It sounds a bit like racial profiling don’t it??

  12. 12 norms

probably produced by one of our regular contributors, of hoe, mr cutter? what do you think today?

not to rain on anyone’s parade but havent there been times when other politicians have had press conferences or addressed specifically an itallian or greek audience no one complained, so why should we complain when the same is done for a ‘blacker’ audience?

not to rain on anyone’s parade but havent there been times when other politicians have had press conferences or addressed specifically an itallian or greek audience no one complained, so why should we complain when the same is done for a ‘blacker’ audience?

    This is a fair question.

  16. 16 sicovit

    It’s not a fair question.
Firstly, us whites have been here longer than the Indians, so if time on the continent decides your Africaness (which is a retarded) then we are more African than they are.
Secondly, Italian, Greek, or any other NATIONALITY being excluded does not constitute racism. WHITES being excluded because of their skin colour IS FRIKKIN’ RACISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we did the same, it would make every news paper in the country, and WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED.

Thirdly, I am as African as any of you who were born in this country. I wasn’t part of the white elite, I wasn’t for Apartheid, I didn’t vote for it. I sure as hell am not going to be punished for it.

“Past imbalances” are exactly that, PAST! It is a very thin veil to conceal what’s really going on here, which is?
Segregation of one race group from another/others. There’s a word for it, what is it again?
    Oh yeah….

    RACISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. 17 Boss Playa

clearly this is an issue that has touched a raw nerve with our fair skinned brothers….
The greeks\italians that i was referring to above are not from outside africa, but they’re SOUTH AFRICANS just like you and me. whites were not excluded on the basis that they’re not south africans but on the basis that the press conference was hosted by a society for the advancement of black (or maybe we should say previously disadvantaged so that sicovit might begin to understand why indians and coloureds were admitted) journalists.
The beauty of our constitution is that it allows for people to convene and gather in any manner that they like (and have any selection criteria that they wish apply) SO LONG AS IT DOESNT HARM ANYONE!!! no one is getting punished for anything here, people are just getting excited over nothing. how many times do afrikaaners gather just by themselves without anyone making a mountain out of it? ever heard of orania and that brummel oke? at the end of the day nothing that was done was illegal\unethical and i think thats what is making people like sicovit even more agry coz they know that they have no leg to stand on……..

NUFF SAID! BOSS PLAYA SIGNING OUT…………………

  18. 18 sicovit

This is a blog, Boss Playa, which means you don’t get to say nuff said, even though you are black (or previously disadvantaged, whichever helps you sleep at night).

Orania was a million years ago, and Beau Brummel was a nudist - which narrowed his target audience a little.
I do realise that coloureds and Indians were marginalised (not to the same extent as the blacks), but my point is that every time something like this is allowed to happen, it perpetuates the whole Apartheid thing. It is 14 years later, and the only people who are keeping this sword over our heads are those who see the benefit of keeping the memory fresh in our minds.
The majority of those journos have spent a large portion of their lives “free” (as the ANC puts it), and I’m sure they would be among the first to want to see us move forward, then bam! this type of thing comes to drag us back 20 years.

I find it hard to believe that Boss Playa thinks something like this isn’t going to bring up memories of a time long past, and the resentments toward the whites is going to come back, even just a little.
    That’s not progress.
It’s unconstitutional, it’s destructive, and it’s soooooo typical.

It’s also going to happen, cos it is going to help those in power stay in power.
I can see how someone who calls himself Boss Playa would find that kind of Gangsta mentality to be correct.

    Nuff Said.

  19. 19 Jeremy

I wonder if Mandela would have accepted the invitation to speak at this event (for blacks only). My guess is that he would have declined. Because he is a man of integrity anf honour.

People are indeed allowed to meet however, and with whomever, they want. But there’s a huge difference between a social braai at someone’s house, and a discussion forum with Jacob Zuma and world media. When the president of the ruling party speaks at an event that is in the interest of the public at large - including all journalists - it is unacceptable.

To support this means that you are a racist.

  20. 20 Boss Playa

wow i like this, a fellow whitey who’s gangsta - or should i say a white fellow who’s gangsta? lolz

please humor me and tell me how this incident has traumatised or forever emotionally scarred whitey journalists? at no point was this meant to perpetuate resentment towards whites and i dont see what would give you that idea, although in my opinion i think it could bring resentment towards blacks (read as previously disadvantaged) from whites…..

if its any consolation to you, there was no anti-whites discussion in there.

this is starting to sound like in primary school when some of the kids would run crying to the teacher just coz they weren’t allowed to play with the cool kids since they weren’t part of the click…..

sicovit would you like us to believe that you will not mind anyone walking into one of your business\family conversations and simply taking part just coz u cant segregate against them? obviously not! that is because we have the freedom to discuss any issues with whomever we see fit and also leave out whomever we see unfit!

and please humor me again and tell me where in the constitution does it say this kind of gathering is unconstitutional, take your time as it might take long to find smething that doesnt exist, or maybe it exists in the Sicovit Unabbridged Edition of the Constitution (Volume4)?

i know the ANC fucks up (almost) everyday (im still angry about their decision w.r.t the scorpions) but that doesnt mean we now have to find fault in every little thing they do…………. “oh shit, lets get excited .Zuma’s driver just cut off a whitey on the highway. He is so raccccciiiiist! Lets lynch and burn him!!!!” riiiiiight!

   BOSS PLAYA HAS SPOKEN, NUFF SAID

  21. 21 Jeremy

This was indeed unconstitutional, Boss Playa. Which is why the HRC is looking into it.

Again, don’t make the comparison of a little business lunch between friends, and the future president of South Africa speaking to journalists about matters of public interest.

  22. 22 Boss Playa

jeremy let me get you straight, r u saying it would have been ok for zuma to call a braai for black journos only rather and have the discussion there? isnt it still a gathering nonetheless? :???:

here’s a question: would you still be moaning had you been part of the ‘elite’ invited (if they only invited white journos? :???: :???: :???: :???: :???:

   BOSS PLAYA

  23. 23 Jeremy

I would have turned down the invite, china. You should know this about me. Plus, I’m not Zuma; the world doesn’t care if I fart or shower.

r u saying it would have been ok for zuma to call a braai for black journos only rather and have the discussion there? isnt it still a gathering nonetheless?

Are you really struggling with this one? (Hint: the HRC are investigating this issue.)

  24. 24 Boss Playa

the HRC is looking into this because (looking at the metaphor with the schoolkids and the teacher above) they are the teacher, zuma and his ‘black’ journalists are the cool kids clique and the whitey journalists that are rioting over this are they little crying kids………….

and if it unconstitutional please quote the consitution so i can confirm that and i will submit that you are right, not before that. u have to remember that something that is not ‘right’ can still be constitutional……

   BOSS PLAYA

  25. 25 Boss Playa

if the kids go running to the teacher then the teahcer has to look into the matter, it doesnt mean that the teacher thinks the ‘cool kids clique’ is right or wrong - it only means that the teacher is showing the ‘crybabies’ (sorry about the use of the word but i couldnt find another suitable one) that the matter is being investigated. thats all!

   BOSS PLAYA

  26. 26 Jeremy

Of course it’s unconstitutional; it’s racial segregation and exlcusion. Especially since this is a public gathering - not some private braai at someone’s house.

Zuma is the future president of SA. If he farts, it makes global news. Just about nothing he does, sadly, can be excluded from the interest of the public at large,

But here’s the point: if all the top white businessmen in SA; you know, the guys who run the mines, and the guys who run the banking institutions etc, all got together and formed a whites-only corporate club, where they invited world leaders to speak at, and excluded blacks from it, we’ll see who will do the crying.

u have to remember that something that is not ‘right’ can still be constitutional……

  27. 27 Boss Playa

is the problem here the formation of a blacks only journos society or the fact that zuma spoke there?

and is it still wrong if zuma (or any member of parliament) speaks at a gathering for the italian (and thus white) lawyers with non italians not allowed in there(as this has happened - so if you guys are on such a moral high horse why didnt you nitpick then?)? and dont go the route of stating i cant compare cultural segregation to racial segregation because if we want to be petty then we’ll say all segregation is segregation……..

plus Zuma is not a world leader (not yet anyway) so u cant equate him to world leaders. he is just the head of the ruling party but Mbeki is (sadly) still the president of this country

   BOSS PLAYA

  28. 28 Boss Playa

and dont count your chickens yet Zuma is not the future president of the country just yet………….. (was kinda hoping Tokyo Sexwale would step up and run for the presidency as he is the better candidate but thats another story)

   BOSS PLAYA

  29. 29 Boss Playa

    TO QUOTE COMMENT NUMBER SIX:
“Makoe said the body’s “modus operandi” was to “redress inherent past imbalances which affect journalists as they attempt to work in the public domain”. ”

are we expected to believe that there are absolutely no past imbalances that affect ‘black’ journos as they attempt to work in the public domain? absolutely none? i find that hard to believe. the problem here is that some of us find past imbalances (caused by our favourite word: APARTHEID) embarrasing coz of the colour of our skin and thus try and sweep the issues beneath the carpet (and then stand next to it whistling suspiciously while pretending to be focusing on something else), what we need to do is rather face the issues and tackle them. that is the reason the FBJ was re-formed……

   BOSS PLAYA

  30. 30 Jeremy

is the problem here the formation of a blacks only journos society or the fact that zuma spoke there?

Good question. Nice thinking. That’s where I was heading.

In the new SA, in 2008, it is unacceptable to have racially exclusive clubs of any kind. I don’t need to explain this. Gender-exclusive clubs and cultrually / religiously exclusive clubs are different (and are obviously acceptable). You don’t need to be intelligent to work this one out.

For example, you can be black, and I can be white, and we can both be Satanists attending a Satanist-only gathering (by special invite). However, excluding coloured Satanists, for no reason other than their skin colour, is unconstituional and racist.

Plus, unless you’re living inside a pumpkin at the bottom of the ocean, Zuma IS world news. He is the leader of SA’s ruling party. Whatever he says and does is in the public interest. If he doesn’t like that idea, then he must step down and fuck off from leadership.

An example of honour and integrity is Mandela. We should wear arm bands that say “WWMD?”.

  31. 31 Boss Playa

   I ACTUALLY LIKE MY PUMPKIN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN!!!

so ur saying segregation is not segregation unless its racial? isnt that kinda bigotted?

we all need to understand that there will always be some segregation (no matter how PC the country) as it is inherent human nature to want to form into groups based on creed, sex AND RACE. doing so is not unconstitutional, but doing so and harming others in the process is what is unconstitutional! the constitution does say people cant be discriminated against based on sex, colour and creed but i still have to see anyone make such a furore over ‘gentlemen only’ clubs or the fact that there are seperate male and female prisons. why? because it is acceptable as long as it doesnt harm a fly!!!

Jeremy, i was actually thinking of selling the pumpkin and buying a pineapple so i can be your neighbour at the bottom of the ocean. care to give some tips? then we can both diss the anc over morning coffee with ariel the little mermaid and her stripper cousins………

   BOSS PLAYA

PS: (ON A SERIOUS NOTE NOW) NONE OF US HAVE THE RIGHT TO TRY AND PUT OFF WHAT WE WANT AS WHAT MANDELA WOULD HAVE DONE, WE WONT NOW FOR SURE WHAT HE WOULD HAVE DONE UNTIL WE CAN PUT HIM IN THAT SITUATION AND SEE HOW HE WOULD REACT. WE ARE NOT GODS THAT CAN PULL OUT SOMEONE’S EXPECTED REACTION FROM OUR ASSES AND PASS IT OFF AS HOW THAT PERSON WOULD HAVE REACTED

  32. 32 Jeremy

but i still have to see anyone make such a furore over ‘gentlemen only’ clubs or the fact that there are seperate male and female prisons. why? because it is acceptable as long as it doesnt harm a fly!!!

Well, it’s encouraging to know that male prison inmates, with their vaginas and ovaries and PMS, also have periods once a month. (But I think you have a point, though; female inmates with PMS could cause irreparable harm to more than just flies.)

And about those stripper mermaids, you know where to find me…

  33. 33 sicovit

“this is starting to sound like in primary school when some of the kids would run crying to the teacher just coz they weren’t allowed to play with the cool kids since they weren’t part of the click…..”

Worked for the blacks, didn’t it?

“the problem here is that some of us find past imbalances (caused by our favourite word: APARTHEID) embarrassing coz of the colour of our skin and thus try and sweep the issues beneath the carpet…”

Some of us find it very convenient, when ever a Human Rights issue gets violated, we can just go crying to the teacher and say,”They started it!”

Boss Playa, you are “working” the constitution. Wake up. You can paint it any way you like, what is happening there is UNCONSTITUTIONAL, and seeing as you are so concerned about others getting harmed, this FBJ meeting is going to cause plenty harm, surely even you can see it.

And be careful how you throw the word “whitey” around, it would be terrible if someone had to accuse you of being a racist. ( Yes, even you can be a racist.)

  34. 34 Boss Playa

dude, im using the word ‘whitey’ same as all my BLACK, INDIAN, WHITE, COLOURED & CHINESE friends use the term darkie, charo or bruin-o!

sometimes we all need to relax a bit hey, maybe you need to join myself and jeremy at the bottom of the ocean. those strippers are amazing………

Men like Chris Bathembu of the Citizen give me hope for this country. A real man who can distinguish between the “take what you can while you can’ mentality of our current leadership, and the mind set that says true unity is the only way everyone wins.

    Zuma is an ass.
